Footballers' show off their GOAT winning prize:Anand KrishnaFootballers' show off their GOAT winning prize:Anand KrishnaA new trend in football awards is becoming increasingly popular in the Northern Division.

Out with glittering silverware, the trophy is a buck or a woolly.

Yes, goat and sheep, the four legged bleat.

The prize has stirred up interest and the weekend events have become very competitive and fun to be a part of.

Anand Krishna, a footballer, who is part of the family team said community tournaments offer a live goat or a sheep as winning prizes.

He said the Northerners are not only unique, but creative when it comes to hosting community events.

“The trophy is a goat or a sheep, we do it like nobody,” said Krishna.

Krishna said there isn’t a weekend that they don’t participate, adding there’s always fundraiser events for special occasion, dire needs and medical assistance and a huge number of teams come-out to be part of the event.

“We don’t do silverware, it’s about affordability that is the drawback, we do goat and sheep as first prize and beverages as second prize, what better trophy to play for.”

Krishna said the entrants find the reward extremely attractive, who look forward to tournaments with optimism.

“We have a format, shootout, 7-a side or it could be 11 a side, it all depends on how the organizers set the tournament.”

“Teams, fans and all involved love the concept.

”A goat or sheep's worth it to enter the tournament. Everyone is looking forward to winning the event.”

Krishna said the prize comes with no conditions, it is at the winner’s discretion as per say.

He said if the team chooses to raise their 'trophy' as a pet or consume it,it is perfectly fine by the organizers.

“I know when we talk about a goat or a sheep, the next thing that comes to mind is the mouth savouring delicacy, it’s just how it is,” said Krishna with a laugh.

“Price ranges somewhere from $400-$500.

“It is more than just a bargain, it's a steal of a deal."

A google search revealed that athletes collect a range of rewards for outstanding performance while representing their countries.

These unique rewards draw attention to the quirky nature of some of the gifts some teams and athletes receive.

The Olympians receive in addition to their medals, from individual governments and private sponsors who often compensate athletes with cash, property and even more unusual prizes, like livestock.

The Indonesian badminton athletes Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu, who earned gold medals at the Tokyo Games in 2021, received five cows, a meatball restaurant and a new house.

And in the African countries, animals are considered to be the best rewards, as teams, individuals, footballers are often presented as a token of appreciation.

But the Northerners’ find a goat and a sheep as a more appealing prize and most of the time the hunt just leaves a mouth savouring taste at the end of the competition.
