Need for creative commentators

Local Sports

Football commentator Riten Gosai joins Mai TV Football commentator Riten Gosai joins Mai TV Football commentators need to be more creative and analytical when calling plays.

Good commentators bring a game to life, describing the plays and giving stats and information that were relevant to what was happening.

One didn't even need to see the game to know what was going on and to be able to feel the intensity and excitement, because words, voice, and inflections provided all to the listener.

Some have worked for decades but are only remembered for one line, repetitive words and oftentimes get the evocative wrong.

And all phrases that don’t amount to the footballing genre.

Boring isn’t rushed adrenaline, it is irritating to say the least.

Elsewhere, commentators come out of Broadcast and Media Communication and Colleges only to queue up for audience introductions.

They work under mile high commentators before getting their big break.

The lack of such institutions in Fiji allows passion driven yet novice to be put behind a microscope as commentators.

And as a growing trend has, they pickup on the old template.

For much of the 90 minute chew up airtime for repetitive words like far touch line side, district side, embankment side, hustle away, thump it and what not.

Or utilize their fame to name drop and tell stories about their mouth watering delicacies, or speculate about players, rumours, and their intentions instead of describing the actual football, and spend so much time vomiting nonsense about referees calls, while it remains incredibly clear that they have never even read the Laws of the Game.

Now where is creativity if any in all the soundbites?

New tandem

Riten Gosai is a wordsmith, having been a play by play commentator with S1Sports Vancouver, he has a fresh breath for commentary, he is eloquent, vivid and compelling.

With a pleasant resonance to his voice, knowledge of the game and presentation serves the purpose in the commentary context.

Riten received rave reviews following his debut during the Battle of the Giants in August.

Mai TV

Riten will share airtime with incredibly talented commentator Nadeem Mohammed on Mai.TV. during the Inter District Championship at Lautoka’s Churchill Park.

The tandem have an obvious passion for the game and all aspects of it, but also have professionalism and respect for all of the stakeholders involved.

And are ready to offer clarity when others confuse, and provide that perfect soundtrack of emotion and dynamics that matches what is happening on the pitch with perfection is the ultimate.

All of this without distracting or stealing the spotlight but rather creating a legacy of aptly telling the story of the game.

These are your ideal football commentators, who will create the perfect background for the art that is a football match.
